Effective rate calculator: what card payments cost your shop

Type what the shop takes on cards in a month and what an average sale is. The list re-ranks itself, because a monthly fee spread over a quiet month is what decides which provider is cheapest.

It runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere, and we never ask for your details.

Why does the ranking move?

Two things move it. A monthly fee is a fixed amount, so it is a large share of a quiet month's takings and almost nothing in a busy one. A per-transaction fee is fixed per sale, so it hurts a coffee shop with a £3 average sale far more than a furniture shop with a £300 one. The calculator uses the published rate, the published fee and the published hardware price, and nothing else.

Who this is not for

If you are choosing on hardware, apps or support, this tool has nothing to say to you. It compares published prices, and it does not know whether any of these providers is any good. It also cannot price interchange-plus deals, because the interchange is not published.
